What is Cold Wax Medium?

I work with a mixture of oil paint and cold wax medium — a soft paste made with beeswax, a hardening agent, such as Galkyd oil or Damar resin, and a small amount of mineral spirits. This gives the paint a rich, velvety, translucent texture. The wax allows me to build layers that can be carved, scratched into and scraped back to reveal traces of what lies beneath. I often use spatulas, scrapers, and other tools, along with brushes, working intuitively to shape the surface until it feels alive.
